Culver City Redevelopment Agency and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association present Music in the Chambers concert series beginning Friday, January 29 , 2010


Free performances presented in the Mike Balkman Council Chambers at Culver City City Hall

The Culver City Redevelopment Agency and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association present Music in the Chambers, featuring members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in three free Neighborhood Chamber Music Concerts, January 29, February 26 and March 19, 2010. Music in the Chambers is an intimate classical music series presented during the winter months in the Mike Balkman Council Chambers in Culver City City Hall. Sony Pictures Entertainment sponsors the series. The Los Angeles Philharmonic's Neighborhood Concerts include free orchestra, chamber music and jazz concerts in churches, community centers and other local venues around Southern California. The Los Angeles Philharmonic has been presenting free neighborhood and community concerts for the past 19 years, as part of the organization's dedication to making music accessible to the widest possible audience.

Culver City City Hall is located at 9770 Culver Boulevard in Downtown Culver City. Complimentary parking is located in City Hall Garage and Downtown’s many restaurants are open before and after the performances. All concerts begin at 7pm and are free and open to the public. Reservations are required and seating may be reserved by calling the Cultural Affairs Hotline at (310) 253-5716. Each concert will be broadcast live on Channel 35 in Culver City through Comcast as well as webcast through the City’s web site. The Los Angeles Double Bass Quartet offers audiences a rare opportunity to hear a unique ensemble of bassists performing seldom heard duos, trios and quartets for the bass. The Los Angeles Double Bass Quartet includes Christopher Hanulik, Oscar M. Meza, David Allen Moore, and Peter Rofé who are all members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The ensemble will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Barney Childs, Stefan Boleslaw Poradowski, Joseph Lauber, Gunther Schuller, David Anderson and Elena Kats-Chernin during its appearance in the Music in the Chambers series.

Violinist Robert Vijay Gupta returns to Music in the Chambers for a second year and will open the evening with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude from 3rd Partita in E Major for Unaccompanied Violin, Ludwig Von Beethoven’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, Opus 90 and Johannes Brahm’s Sonatensatz. Mr. Gupta will be accompanied by pianist Yana Reznik. The second half of the performance will be devoted to Beethoven’s String Quartet, Opus 59 No.3 played by The Opus 59ers. The Opus 59ers include Robert Vijay Gupta (violin), Ingrid Chun (violin), Leticia Oaks Strong (viola) and Gloria Lum (cello) who are all members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Violinist Robert Vijay Gupta and Percussionist/Composer Joseph Pereira, both members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will present performances featuring violin, vibraphone and drums. The evening also features the premiere of a new work for solo percussion composed by Mr. Pereira.
