Post Date:06/27/2017 5:28 PM
2016 CityBus Operator of the Year AwardsIn early June, Culver City Mayor Jeffrey Cooper and the City Council recognized the 2016 Earl Barr Culver CityBus Operator of the Year and 2016 Distinguished Operator of the Year Award winners at a regularly scheduled meeting. The Transportation Department’s Transit Operation Division initially honored the winners in front of their peers in late March.

Jonathan Culbert and Manuel Flores received the 2016 Earl Barr Culver CityBus Operator of the Year Award, and for an impressive 12th consecutive year, Steve Sanceri received the 2016 Distinguished Operator of the Year Award.

Bus Operators Culbert, Flores, and Sanceri earned their awards by abiding by all City of Culver City, Transportation Department, and Transit Operations Division rules and regulations. They operated their buses safely, refrained from getting into any accidents, and reported for duty on time and on a regular basis. Additionally, Culbert and Flores received no disciplinary actions for one-year periods, and Sanceri for a five-year period.

All three award winners set high standards for themselves and their fellow bus operators. As such, the City Council acknowledged them as assets to the City and rewarded them under the Rule 15 Employee Recognition and Incentive Program for Outstanding Job Performance in the Culver City Civil Service Rules.

While gathering information for the 2016 Safety Awards, staff found that Bus Operator Culbert has not missed a day of work in five years. Many of the other awards focus on one-year time frames, making Operator Culbert's high standard of over five years truly remarkable.
The City regularly receives calls and emails commending Culver CityBus Operators. Bus Operators Culbert, Flores, and Sanceri are simply a few stars of the group.
