In June of 2017, Southern California Edison (SCE) will begin a project to upgrade its electrical infrastructure in the Downtown Culver City area. The impetus for the project is the need to relocate infrastructure to begin construction on "Parcel B" at 9300 Culver Boulevard. SCE, along with crews from contractor partners, will also upgrade circuits and replace electrical vaults to improve reliability in the Downtown area. The work will result in a modern electrical infrastructure Downtown with enhanced capabilities and capacity.
Work will occur periodically starting in mid-to-late June 2017, and the project will last approximately four months. The civil construction work will occur along the north side of Culver Boulevard between Washington Boulevard and Irving Place, with some staging onto Washington Boulevard (see area marked in green on below map). One lane reduction will occur periodically on Culver Boulevard near the Culver Hotel/Parcel B site. Culver Boulevard and Washington Boulevard will be open in both directions during construction, although one parking lane and one westbound lane of Culver Boulevard will be closed intermittently.
The total scope of work for the electrical work for upgrading SCE cable and installing new equipment will be along Culver Boulevard between Cardiff Street & Duquesne Avenue, and on Washington Boulevard between Culver Boulevard & Ince Boulevard (see area outlined in red on below map).
The hours of construction are expected to be Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., with some work at night.
- Please be advised these dates and times are subject to change due to unforeseen operational factors or inclement weather.
- Work hours will vary based on specific permit conditions.
- For crews to work safely, SCE may schedule maintenance power outages during construction. In these cases, customers will be notified by phone, text, email or mail generally eight to eleven days in advance and at least 72 hours prior to the outages. The SCE Field Supervisor will also be working with Downtown businesses in advance of the official notification. Downtown businesses can get in touch with SCE's project manager using the contact information above with questions or to learn more.
