Equity and Human Relations Award

The Culver City Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee has created the Equity and Human Relations Award to honor individuals for their contributions to equity and human relations in Culver City.

Recipients will be four individuals who have embodied inclusiveness, altruism, and giving through volunteerism and public service to make Culver City a better place for all people to live. Each award recipient will be honored with a medallion by the Culver City, City Council during a Council meeting in late spring.

Award Categories

An award will be presented to no more than one individual in each category.

  • Individual
  •  Student
  •  Business owner
  •  President or executive director of a non-profit

 

Nominee Qualifications

  • Nominees for the individual award must reside or be employed in Culver City.
  • Nominees for the student award must reside in Culver City, and/or attend a school in Culver City, or attend West Los Angeles College.
  • Nominees for the business owner award must own a business located in Culver City.
  • Nominees for the non-profit award must be a leader of a non-profit located in or that serves Culver City and the greater area.

 

Who may nominate

Any Culver City resident, business owner, student, or person employed in the city of Culver City. See exceptions below in Awards Nomination Rules. 

 

Award Nomination Rules

  • The nominee's contributions must have occurred in 2024.
  • Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee members, their families, and their employees are not eligible.
  • Self-nomination is not permitted.
  • Nominees may not be deceased. 
  • Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee members may not nominate.

 

Award Criteria

The individual nominee:
  • Assists in meeting the needs of others
  • Works with an underserved population
  • Motivates others to serve
  • Is directly involved with those served
  • Serves a broad population
  • Bases service on urgency of the need
  • Is an “unsung hero”

 

Nomination Evaluation Process

Members of the Equity and Human Relations Awards Ad Hoc Subcommittee will review and evaluate all submissions.

 

Deadline for Submissions 

In order to be considered for the award, nominations must be received by the Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee before midnight on March 31, 2025, or if mailed, postmarked no later than March 31, 2025.
