City Council Recognition
Certificates, Commendations, Proclamations, and Adjournments in Memory
The Mayor and City Council can recognize and honor individuals or organizations for any of the following reasons:
- Special achievements by residents, businesses, or organizations.
- Marking an organizational milestone or event.
- Significant contributions to the local community.
- Remembering the life of someone who made a significant contribution to the community.
There are several types of City Council recognition formats:
Certificate
A Certificate of Achievement recognizes special accomplishments or milestones (e.g. 100th birthday of a resident, Little League champions, etc.). Usually, it is a one-time occurrence that deserves recognition, but not at the level of a Commendation (see below). Individual Council Members may request certificates, which must be approved by at least three City Council Members, or they may approved solely by the Mayor. Certificates are signed only by the Mayor, or as otherwise designated by him/her, and presented on 8 ½ x 11 certificate paper.

Commendation
A Commendation honors an outstanding or continued contribution to the community by an individual, organization, or group. Generally, commendations are reserved for those who have contributed to the betterment of the Culver City community for a continued period of time. A commendation requires approval of at least three City Council Members or approval of the Mayor. Commendations are signed by the full City Council, and are presented on 11 x 17 commendation paper.

Proclamation
A Proclamation recognizes a significant event and officially sets aside a period of time in which the event is to be recognized (i.e. a Service Day, Week or Month). A proclamation requires approval of at least three City Council Members or approval of the Mayor. Proclamations are signed by the full City Council, and are presented on 11 x 17 proclamation paper.

Adjournment in Memory
The City Council may end (adjourn) its meeting with a statement by the Mayor or a City Council Member honoring a person who has recently passed away who has made a significant contribution to Culver City. Often this is a Culver City resident, but it could be another local or national figure who has had a significant impact on the community. Afterwards, the Mayor sends a letter to loved ones of the honored individual.
