Recreational Swim

Advance registration is recommended. There are shallow water open areas for participants to navigate freely. There is also a deep water play lane and diving boards for those that pass the swim test. Please remember children under 48-inches tall must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older in the water within arms reach at all times - the adult to child ratio must be 1-to-1.

A 15 minute grace period is given to all patrons participating in the swim hour we are open. After the 15 minutes the facility will be closed and all patrons will be asked to exit the facility

The Culver City Plunge will be closed for its annual maintenance starting December 15, 2024 until January 4, 2025.

Recreational Swimming

Recreational Swim is a family-oriented program enjoyed by people of all ages. The City has implemented recreation swim rules that are designed for the safety of all participants. Participants are encouraged to enjoy recreation swimming safely and to follow the direction of the lifeguards at all times. Participants must pre-register on line for Recreational Swim. See Recreational Swim Times and Guidelines below.

Residents of Culver City sign up every Monday at 7 AM for the following week.
Non-Residents of Culver City sign up every Wednesday at 7 AM

How to Register for Recreational Swim

  1. One family member (the head of the household or parent) must log in to your account and register for a family swim time and day. 
  2. Click on the "Activities" Link- the second word on the gray bar below the green logo/picture.
  3. Enter "Recreation" in the activity box. All the open Recreational Swim Activities will pop up by date. (The number under the third column labeled open will show you how many spaces are open that day.)
  4. Select the date you would like to swim and click the green button on the right that says "add to cart" (Note: If the button to the right of the time you would like is blue and says "Wishlist" it means that the registration for that date has not begun. You may add it to your "wishlist" to speed up the registration process when the activity does open. Check above for registration dates)
  5. Finally plunge in and enjoy!

  6. Once enrolled in a family swim time and day, upon arrival at the pool, the enrollee must  pay for the additional family members at the door. (up to 6 participants per registration)
  7. Finally plunge in and enjoy!

Recreational Swim and Diving Board Rules

Recreational Swim Rules

  • All persons entering the facility are required to pay the admission fee.
  • No person shall enter the pool without a lifeguard present.
  • Children under 48-inches tall must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older in the water within arms-reach at all times. The adult to child ratio must be 1-to-1.
  • No running at any time.
  • No toys in the recreational swim area.
  • Only coastguard approved lifejackets are permitted in the pool.
  • Hanging on ropes or lanes lines is not permitted.
  • Hanging and swinging on hand rails is not permitted.
  • Horseplay (shoving, dunking, sitting on shoulders, etc.) is not permitted in pool or on deck.
  • Possession of alcohol, tobacco and controlled substances in pool complex is not prohibited.
  • Individuals assumed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs shall not be permitted onto City property.
  • Emergency equipment is for emergency lifeguard use only.
  • Only lifeguards are permitted on lifeguard stands.
  • No bicycles or skateboards allowed on pool deck.
  • Deck changing is not permitted.
  • Recreation Swim: Only U.S. Coastguard approved lifejackets are permitted in the pool. No flotation devices.
  • Private instruction or coaching is not permitted.
  • No diving in shallow water under 5 feet.
  • Bathing suits or appropriate swim attire must be worn at all times while in the pool. Brazilian and/or thong style swim wear, cut-off jeans, jeans, skirts, shorts, sports bras, leotards, leggings, dri-fit wear, compression shorts and/or compression shirts are prohibited. Underwear and undergarments are not allowed to be worn under swimsuits.
  • No food, drinks, chairs, bicycles, skateboards, and/or strollers are allowed in the pool facility.
  • Swim diapers must be worn in the pool by babies/toddlers who are not toilet trained.
  • No prolonged breath holding due to potential “shallow water blackout.”
  • No glass allowed in the pool facility.

 

Diving Board Rules

  • As a safety precaution, before diving, divers must pass a swim test.
  • The swim test is as follows: 50 yards freestyle, with head in water using rotary breathing non-stop.
  • All participants passing the swim test will receive a wristband before using the diving boards.
  • Participants must be 48 inches tall to use the high dive/3 meter
  • Following a dive, participant must immediately swim directly to the closest ladder at the side of pool and exit the pool.
  • Only forward facing jumps, dives or front flips permitted. 
  • A participant may not climb up onto the board until the participant in front of them is completely out of the water.
  • No swimming in the diving well.
  • Only one (1) bounce on boards is permitted.
  • Only one (1) person on board and ladder at a time.
  • Intentionally splashing lifeguards is strictly prohibited.
  • The following is prohibited on diving board:
    • running on board
    • diving from side
    • swinging on rails
    • horseplay (flips, back dives, etc.)
    • jumping off board while others are in area

Camp & Group Recreational Swim Permits

Groups of 10 or more are required to complete a Camp/Group permit in advance. Only approved permits will be allowed to participate in Recreational Swim. To submit a Camp or Group permit, please complete the steps below:

  1. Fill out a Pool Rental Reservation Form
  2. Send your request by email. 
  3. Once approved a permit will be finalized.
  4. A certificate of insurance will be required from Non-Profit and Commercial Organizations.
