On a beautiful December evening, hundreds of people packed the Town Plaza in Downtown Culver City to enjoy an evening of celebration at the annual Tree Lighting Sled-tacular. Children and families took part in the snow and sledding that filled the area in front of the Culver Theater. Meanwhile, the Culver City Parks and Recreation Community Services spearheaded the games and activity booths.

Another highlight of the night was from the elementary, middle school, and high school students who performed holiday songs to a packed crowd in front of the Culver Steps. Shortly after the performance, Mayor Albert Vera, joined on stage by Vice Mayor Yasmine-Imani McMorrin and Council Members Göran Eriksson, Dan O’Brien, and Freddy Puza, to offered words of peace and hope in the holiday season.

“The lighting of this majestic tree symbolizes the start of the season that brings families, friends and neighbors closer, embracing the joy and love that fills our hearts,” said Culver City Mayor Albert Vera. “The light that adorns this tree represents the warmth and love we share with one another, brightening the lives of those around us. Just as the light shines brightly, let us remember the collective efforts that make our community shine. This Christmas tree stands as a beacon of hope reminding us of the power and strength of our community members. It serves as a reminder that in times of darkness, we can find light in the company of one another. Together, we can overcome any challenges and bring joy to those who most need it.”

The crowd joined the countdown as the big switch was flipped, lighting the 22-foot tree’s 7,500 LED lights, which will be on display throughout the holiday season. Following the ceremony, Santa Claus paid a visit to the Heart of Screenland in a motorcade with Culver City Police Department, as long lines formed for kids to share their wishes to jolly St. Nick. And the crowd enjoyed cookies and hot chocolate donated by the Downtown Business Association members as the evening came to a close.

“It is always exciting to see the community come together for this annual event,” said Elaine Gerety-Warner, City of Culver City’s Economic Development Director. “Many thanks to all who made this year's event so successful from the lovely singing to the delicious treats! We appreciate our residential, school and business communities working together to make Culver City a wonderful place to spend this holiday season.”
