On December 5, 2022, the City Council of the City of Culver City awarded over $213,000 in 2023 Performing Arts Grants as recommended by the City’s Cultural Affairs Commission. Twenty-nine (29) non-profit arts organizations will receive grants to present music, dance, and theatre performances from January to December 2023. These performances will take place at various indoor and outdoor locations throughout Culver City and will be free or have low-cost ticket options.
“During this year of pandemic recovery, we are proud to support more arts groups than ever before and to provide many opportunities for audiences to attend live performances” said Culver City Mayor Albert Vera. “We remain committed to sustaining the performing arts in our community and enriching the lives of our residents, families, workforce, and visitors. We are pleased that a wide variety of groups applied for this grant program, as they will provide diverse entertainment opportunities in Culver City.”
Culver City Symphony Orchestra, a long-time grant recipient, sent this message to the Cultural Affairs Commission. “Your steadfast support through the pandemic has helped us survive through a very difficult period and return to live performances in good financial, organizational and artistic health.”
The Culver City Performing Arts Grant Program was established in 1994 as part of the City’s Art in Public Places Program, offering project grants to non-profit performing arts organizations in Los Angeles County. Under the purview of the City’s Cultural Affairs Commission, the grant program supports local arts organizations and provides Culver City audiences with enriching and accessible cultural opportunities. Funding for the annual program is allocated from the City’s Cultural Trust Fund. The 2023 grant program is also funded by contributions from the Culver City Arts Foundation and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
