Senior & Disabled Transportation Services

The City of Culver City Transportation Division Goal is to offer several transportation options to residents of Culver City and designated areas of Los Angeles County. Paratransit Service is a curb-to-curb public transportation service for people with disabilities who are unable to use “fixed route” forms of public transportation. Paratransit is a shared-ride service operated with modern, accessible vehicles, and taxi cabs.

Current Dial-A-Ride and Taxi Coupon Program participants, please contact the Transportation Department at (310) 253-6580 with comments, questions, recommendations, and/or complaints.

Below you will find the steps to register for the Dial-a-Ride Program and Taxi Coupon Program as well as Dial-a-Ride Frequently Asked Questions, Taxi Coupon Frequently Asked Questions.  Also, included is information about LA County's Access Services, Los Angeles CityRide Program, and the Transit Access Pass (TAP).  

Dial-a-Ride

Culver City Dial-A-Ride (DAR) service is provided for qualified individuals who are transportationally disabled (unable to drive or use public transportation).  Curb-to-curb service is provided from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM; Monday-Friday within Culver City limits and designated areas of LA County.  Door-to-door service is available upon request.  

Step 1.Submit Proof of Residency

Participants must be Culver City Residents as defined by the City of Culver City's Geographic Information System (GIS). 

Step 2.Submit Physician Authorization Form

This form is to be completed by the participant's doctor verifying that the participant cannot drive or take fixed-route public transportation due to a disability or illness.

Step 3.Submit the New Dial-A-Ride User Information Form

This form is to be completed by the participant and submitted to Senior & Social Services.

Step 4.Have all Requirements Verified by Staff

Verification usually takes two business days and the participant will be contacted by a staff member. 

Step 5.Be Assigned a Driver by Staff

Once participant has been verified and contacted by staff, they will receive in the mail information about the program and the driver they have been assigned.  

Step 6.Make a Reservation the Day Before the Requested Service

The following information is needed to make a reservation

  • Name
  • Date you wish to travel
  • Destination address (location
  • Time you wish to travel
  • Return pick-up time
  • Indicate any special situation of need (wheelchair, personal care attendant (PCA), service dog, etc.) 

Taxi Coupon Program

The program supplements the Culver City Dial-A-Ride program for approved participants. By working with local taxicab companies, the program allows participants to book trips at a subsidized rate, allowing for lower costs and more flexibility.  Participants may travel anytime the taxicab company is available. Taxicab wait times are generally 15–30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. 

Step 1.Fill out the Physician's Authorization Form

For Culver City Residents and County Residents under the age of 60, this form is to be completed by the participant's doctor verifying that the participant cannot drive or take fixed-route public transportation due to a disability or illness.

Step 2.Submit Proof of Age

County residents over 60 years of age do not require authorization by a physician.  However, proof of age is required. 

Step 3.Submit Proof of Residency 

All trips must originate or end in either Culver City or specified County areas: View Park, Windsor Hills & Ladera Heights. 

Step 4.Submit the new Paratransit User Information Form

This form is to be completed by the participant and submitted to Senior & Social Services.

Step 5.Expect to be approved within 2-3 business days. 

Staff will contact the the new participant with information welcoming them to the program.  

Step 6.Purchase your Taxi Coupon Book. 

Coupons are available for purchase from the Senior Center Business Desk. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, please call the Senior Center Business Desk at (310) 235-6700, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday–Friday, and 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM on weekends, for more information on purchasing taxi coupons.

Dial-A-Ride FAQ

How Much Does it Cost?

A donation of 50 cents each way is suggested.

Donations help support and maintain the Dial-A-Ride Program.

Dial-A-Ride passes may be purchased at the Senior Center Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–4:00 PM


When is Service Confirmed?

Service is not confirmed until a callback is received the morning of the ride.


Are Rides Guaranteed?

Requested rides are not guaranteed.  However, every effort will be made to accommodate all requests.  Priority will be given to clients requesting rides to medical appointments and grocery shopping. 


Is There a Grace Period?

Participants should be aware that there is a 15 minute grace period to/after the scheduled pick-up time for drivers to arrive. 


When Should I be Ready?

We ask that you are ready 15 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. 


Is there any day that Dial-a-Ride is not available? 

Dial-a-Ride Service is not available on the following days:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

What is a PCA?

PCA (Personal Care Attendant) is someone who travels with the participant to provide assistance.  The PCA rides Dial-a-Rode free and must board and de-board at the same location as the participant.  Dial-a-Rode does not provide PCAs and the driver cannot serve as a PCA.  


Do I Need to Wear a Seatbelt?

All passengers being transported in the vehicle are required to properly wear seatbelts or have their mobility device secured throughout the entire ride.  Passengers are not permitted to stand while the vehicle is in operation.  

Taxi Coupon Program FAQ

How do I File a Complaint? 

Should a situation arise that requires the filing of a formal complaint, please follow this course of action:

  1. Note the phone number of the taxi company
  2. Date and time the taxi company was called
  3. Pick-up address
  4. Note the 3 or 4 digit number of the taxi cab involved
  5. Contact the Culver City Transportation Department at (310) 253-6580 for proper handling of the complaint.

How Much Does it Cost?

  • Participants can buy coupons for taxicab trips.
  • Each coupon is worth $1 and the $10-coupon books sell at an 80% discount, or $2 per book.
  • Program participants may purchase up to 10 coupon books for L.A. County residents and 7 coupon books for Culver City residents each month. Taxi coupons never expire.
  • In total, participants can buy up to $70-worth of taxi coupons monthly for just $14.
  • Taxi drivers are required to accept a maximum of $8 in taxi coupons per trip.
  • If the fare exceeds the $8 coupon limit, the balance of the fare must be paid by the participants.
  • Tips for taxi drivers are the responsibility of the participant. 

What are the Taxi Rates? 

$2.85 for the first 1/9 mile $0.30 for each additional 1/9 mile, and $0.30 for each additional 37 seconds of waiting time and/or traffic delay.

Rates may change and/or differ from what is listed above.

It’s always best to call one of the taxicab companies to determine current rates.


Can I be removed from the program?

Participants who do not purchase coupons within a 12-month period will be deleted from the program.

Are Wheelchair Accessible Vans Available? 

Wheelchair accessible vans are available but require advanced notice. Vans may be reserved 24-hours in advance for round-trips. Drivers are allowed to assist customers, but may not physically move them.

Access Services

Culver CityBus is a fixed route service provider in Los Angeles County and utilizes the services of Access Services as its ADA Complementary Paratransit provider. 

What is Access Services?

Access Services is the ADA Complementary Paratransit service for functionally disabled individuals in Los Angeles County.

Access Services operates seven (7) days a week, 24 hours a day in most areas of Los Angeles County.

It is a shared ride service that operates curb-to-curb and utilizes a fleet of small buses, mini-vans and taxis.

ACCESS Services users ride Culver CityBus for free with a valid ACCESS card. Personal care attendants are required to pay full fare when accompanying the ACCESS Services user.

Los Angeles CityRide Program

What is the Los Angeles CityRide Program?

The City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation offers qualified seniors and individuals with disabilities living the City of Los Angeles and designated areas of Los Angels County low-cost access to Metro bus, taxi and /or Dial-a-Ride service through membership with the City Ride Program.

Transit Access Pass (TAP)

What is TAP?

TAP card is a fare card that you can use again and again on fixed-route public transportation. The durable plastic card contains a smart chip that allows you to buy and electronically load stored value and passes for use on Culver CityBus, Metro and several other TAP participating agency bus lines. You may purchase or reload stored value onto your TAP card at the Culver City Transportation Department, Culver City City Hall or anywhere TAP cards are sold. 

A TAP card costs $2 plus any stored value that you add to the card. It is valid on Culver CityBus and Metro and several other TAP participating agencies. Metro passes may be purchased at Metro pass vending locations and only used on Metro bus and rail.
