Household Hazardous Waste are materials such as, but not limited to, cleaning products, paints, chemicals, and electronics that could potentially cause fires or other dangerous outcomes when put in the trash bins. Improper disposal of Hazardous waste is dangerous and illegal.

Drop Off Locations

  • Collection events: LA County offers free “Too Toxic to Trash” events around the County. Events are held within Culver City semi-annually in June and December.
  • Permanent collection centers: open year round, residents can drop off their hazardous waste at one of the free collection centers.

Residents may drop off batteries at the local household hazardous waste facilities. Local home improvement stores or grocery stores may accept household batteries. The Julian Dixon Branch Library in Culver City accepts household batteries.

Other materials that may be dropped off at the HHW facility include:

  • Batteries (vehicle, household, etc.)
  • Hazardous waste (paint, oil, chemicals, etc.)
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • E-waste

Mattress Recycling Program

Mattress Recycling Program

Culver City’s Mattress Recycling Program, in coordination with Bye Bye Mattress through the Mattress Recycling Council, collects unwanted mattresses and box spring foundations, sorts and loads these items onto trailers by Culver City staff at the Transfer Station. After the items are loaded a dedicated mattress recycler collects materials from the City to be recycled.

Holiday Tree-Cycling

Holiday Tree-Cycling

Holiday Tree-cycling is offered by either the Green Cart Collection or the 'Park Your Tree' program. Flocked or artificial trees cannot be composted, place these trees in the black container.

Park Your Tree Program

  1. REMOVE all ornaments, decorations, tinsels and stand from the tree.
  2. DROP Holiday tree to the following drop off locations: 
    • Fox Hills Park
    • Syd Kronenthal Park
    • Culver West Park
    • Veterans Park

Green Cart Collection

  1. REMOVE all ornaments, decorations, tinsels and stand from the tree.
  2. CUT the tree into pieces, if needed to fit into the green cart.
  3. PLACE the tree piex`ces inside the green cart and put them out for regular pick-up on collection day.
